Changing the Default Pen Width in CorelDraw
One of the problems that you will encounter after you install CorelDraw X4 or X5 is that your default pen width is set to .007. This creates a problem when you want to create a cut line for your laser. This is because most lasers will only cut a vector line that is less that .007. A vector line that is thicker than .006 is considered to be a raster line. For this reason it is advantageous to set the default pen width at hairline. This is easy to do in CorelDraw.
Our pen width is .007 inches
As you can see me default line width is .005 points or .oo7 inches. This is to wide and thus we need to change this. I do not want to do this all the time so we will change the default setting.
Go into your Options menu
Select Tools (1) | Options (2)
Select the Default Graphic
In the Options window select Document (1) than Styles (2) and than under styles select Default Graphic (3)
Click on Edit to change the pen width
With the Default Graphic selected (1) Notice the outline is .007 inches (2). Click on Edit (3). Note: the width may be in points do not worry just click on the edit. We can than change every to inches.
In the Outline Pen properties box select Hairline
In the Outline Pen properties command box select the Width pull down menu (1) and select Hairline (2). Click OK.
Now to save the defaults
We now need to save the defaults so that every time we draw a vector object the outline pen width will be the hairline width. Select Document (1). Than select Save options for new documents (2). Uncheck everything except Styles (3). Click on the OK button. We only check the styles because we only made changes here. If we check the others than any changes we have made in the document will be saved.
