I am truly appreciating this valuable information on working with photos. I have been doing some laser testing on various materials, mostly porous ones that I am first converting to a BW (error diffusing) dither option. My laser dashboard (Epilog) also allows for dithering options. If I convert my photo using “Floyd-Steinberg” in CorelDraw, will I get better results on most materials if I also choose “Floyd-Steinberg” again while laser printing? While I plan to do some test comparisons of my own to check personal preferences, I am hoping you can advise on a “standard protocol”.
While helpful in theory, I am finding I agree with Mike on the lack of value/necessity of separate photo conversion software. Although I do have one of the newest Photo Laser “one-click” software programs, I do not generally receive a good photo to begin with. I have been “pre-editing” in CorelDraw/Photo-Paint to lighten shadows, make corrections, etc. and then I hesitate in knowing how major of adjustments to make if I plan to send this already “pre-edited” photo through my Photo-Laser software. Not knowing what compensations the software will make according to my selected material,(say marble) other than the obvious inverting, I could be overadjusting the contrast or gamma or such. I am still then left wondering if I should choose a standard or photo-type error diffusion or half-tone dithering method within my print dashboard.
Would love some additional advice. I am striving so hard for as near to perfect results as possible, but am “testing” & “trial-running” myself insane!
It’s time to make some $ !!
