<div class="LessonSummary">
<p>In this lesson we will look at how we will adjust a photo in CorelDraw so that we can process the photo on a tile that was bought from home depot and that tile was sprayed with the Thermark spray that is designed to mark tile and glass &#8211; LMC 6044P.</p>
<p><span id="more-4836"></span>
	</div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">My Original Image</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/media_1325735987685.png" width="446" height="406" alt="media_1325735987685.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Here is an image that we will be working with for this lesson The technique I use here is the technique I use on all my photos. I do not use the so called specialized photo processes as these techniques produce just a good image as they do. It takes 2 minutes to do and the control over my image is a lot better.</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Contrast Enhancement</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/media_1325736140428.png" width="393" height="162" alt="media_1325736140428.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Select the photo. My first step is to select the EFFECTS (1) ADJUST (2) CONTRAST ENHANCEMENT (3). </p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Increase Tonality or Contrast</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/media_1325736200618.png" width="480" height="580" alt="media_1325736200618.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>The next step is to increase the contrast or tonality of the image. In this step I am looking to create both more white area and black area in my photo. To much shades of gray will not laser very well on a tile. Our Original image is on the left (1). The adjusted image is on the right (2). The slider at the top left when moved right will cause the darker tones in the image to become darker (3). Vice Versa the triangle slider on the right when moved left will cause the lighter tones in the image to become lighter (4). Note: to see your adjustments make sure you have the lock button engaged (5).</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">After Contrast Enhancement</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/media_1325736290302.png" width="412" height="423" alt="media_1325736290302.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Our contrast enhancement has been applied.</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Select The Unsharp Mask</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/media_1325736992046.png" width="359" height="245" alt="media_1325736992046.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Before I print any photo whether it is on my laser or on my full colour printer I sharpen the image. The sharpening process brings out the detail in my image so that pops out at you. Most photos you take or get tend to be blurry and thus seem out of focus. Shapening the image gets rid of this issue. To access the Unsharp mask command go to BITMAPS | SHARPEN (2) | UNSHARP MASK (3).</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Unsharp Mask Dialogue Box</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/media_1325737112829.png" width="473" height="379" alt="media_1325737112829.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>The Unsharp dialogue box is pictured above. The original image is on the left (1). The sharpened image is on the right (2). The two sliders or controls that I work with are the Percentage slider (3) and the Radius slider (4). When it comes to porous material such as tile I usually slide the slider up to 500 (3). The Radius I adjust as is needed. But the more porous the material the more I slide the slider or increase the value. I do not typically adjust the Threshold slider (5).</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Image Sharpened</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/media_1325737171426.png" width="509" height="611" alt="media_1325737171426.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Here is our Image Sharpened. Notice our our image pops now.</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Here is Our Convert to Black and White (1 Bit) Conversion Window</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/media_1325737285856.png" width="483" height="435" alt="media_1325737285856.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>In the Convert To 1 Bit dialogue box you can see that our image has been transposed to strictly either black or white (2). Our original image on the left (1) is the grayscale image that is still composed of shades of gray. There is a bit of detail lost but not much &#8211; but htis is critical you want to lose detail in the image so that there is more detail when you laser the image in the tile. You have a number of choices to use in the conversion I typically use Jarvis, Stuckey or Floyd Steinberg (3). The Intensity slider decreases the amount of diffusion that is done in the image in that it becomes lighter. </p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Error Diffusion Image</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/media_1325737638318.png" width="540" height="685" alt="media_1325737638318.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Our image after it has had the error diffusion algorithm applied.</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Our Finished Image On The White Tile</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/media_1325737726173.png" width="540" height="519" alt="media_1325737726173.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Here is the finished image on a 33 cent Home Depot tile. The reason that I think this tile looks so good is because I have taken out a certain amount of detail which has accentuated the remaining detail in the tile. When you look at the hair it jumps out at you and the face is easily recognizable with the original. If you remember what our original image looked like after we sharpened it you may be surprised to see this image. But again I reiterate that reducing detail actually increases detail. So even though it looks bad on the screen it will look good on the finished product.</p>

</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Here is the side that we need to reproduce. This side is like the other sides except that we have a 45 degree angle running up the right side (1). We will need to reproduce this.</p>

<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Draw a Rectangle</h3>

</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>We need to first draw a rectangle that is 3.25 inches wide by 2.5 inches tall (1).</p>

<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Relocate The Rectangle</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">

<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>We need to place our rectangle at the top left hand corner. To do this open up the Transformation Docker. Make sure that Relative Position is unchecked (1). Select our Left hand anchor (selection handle) (2). Place in 0 for your H and 4 for your V (3). Next click the Apply button (4). Our rectangle will relocate to the top left hand corner.</p>

<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>We now need to conniver the rectangle to curves. This is because the image is a special image and needs to be converted to curves so that we can manipulate the nodes on the rectangle. Go to ARRANGE (1) CONVERT TO CURVES (2).</p>

<p>When you move the cursor over the rectangle you will notice that it changes a couple of times in terms of the mouse. <div class="StepInstructions">
<p>The image on the left is the image that we created in our second project. The image on the right is the image that we ned to recreate. You will notice from these two images that the image on the right is almost the same as the image on the left. The only difference is we are missing the tab at the top. So all we need to do than is to duplicate the image on the left and adjust to so that it looks like our left image.</p>

<p>In this lesson we will continue looking at how to recreate the music box.<span id="more-4614"></span></p>
</p></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Here is Our Original </h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4747-media_1321789868642.png" width="234" height="144" alt="wpid4747-media_1321789868642.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Here is the one side of our box that we will be recreating. </p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Place the Original in the Top Left Corner</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4748-media_1321789920067.png" width="447" height="384" alt="wpid4748-media_1321789920067.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>As we did in the Part 1 we need to place the original box in the top left hand corner so that we can do proper measure measurements.</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Measurements on the Original</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4749-media_1322109143315.png" width="363" height="345" alt="wpid4749-media_1322109143315.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>In our measurements we have established that the tabs are like those in Part 1. The tabs are .25 inches in size and there is a .25 inch space between them.. They start at the .25 inch mark on the Y axis. </p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Measurements for the Lower Tabs</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4750-media_1322109639446.png" width="525" height="419" alt="wpid4750-media_1322109639446.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>The lower tabs measurements are as follows. The top of the tabs are at 2.75. The bottom of the tabs are at 2.5 inches. Each tab is the same in size .25 inches wide and the space is .25 inches.</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Add in Our Guidelines for Our Legs</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4751-media_1322137334854.png" width="540" height="365" alt="wpid4751-media_1322137334854.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Now that we have measured out for the tabs we need to measure out for the legs. If we look at the legs you will notice that they are based on a semi circle or oval. Thus to create these will require us to create an oval to trim into the shape of the two legs. Because I have the original drawing I could just by eye create a circle </p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Create Our Box</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4752-media_1322140736739.png" width="311" height="248" alt="wpid4752-media_1322140736739.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Now that we have got our measurements done up and our guidelines in place we can now start to create our box. Our overall box size with the tabs is 3.25 inches wide and 2 inches tall. Because we have the tabs to concern ourselves with we need to subtract his from our measurement. there are two tabs that are .25 inches in size sticking out from the edge so we need to take off 5 inches in width from the 3.25 inches. Seeing the height has no tabs we do not need to concern ourselves with this side. Thus our rectangle has to be 2.75 inches wide (3.25 &#8211; .5) and 2 inches. First create the rectangle and than can place the rectangle height and width in the property bar. Make sure the &quot;Lock&quot; icon is unchecked (step 1 with blue box) as this allows you to place in the two separate values.</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Position the Rectangle</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4753-media_1322140879284.png" width="271" height="457" alt="wpid4753-media_1322140879284.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>With the rectangle sized properly we need to place it at the top left corner of our document. Open up the position menu in the Transformation docker. First make sure that the Relative Position is unchecked (1). Next check the top left handle so the values we enter relate to the top left hand of the box (2). Place in the values that we ned H = 0.25 and V = 4.0 (3). Set copies to 0 (4) and than click on Apply (5).</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Our Image is at the Top of the Page</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4754-media_1322141696649.png" width="499" height="350" alt="wpid4754-media_1322141696649.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Our rectangle is now placed properly .25 inches away from the left corner and right on the top edge. We now need to make the oval to cutout our legs.</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Select Your Ellipse Tool</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4755-media_1322142894060.png" width="321" height="203" alt="wpid4755-media_1322142894060.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Select the Ellipse tool from the tool bar (1).</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Draw the Ellipse</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4756-media_1322143088320.png" width="337" height="241" alt="wpid4756-media_1322143088320.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>The reason we have drawing the guidelines is for 2 reasons. The first is that it allows us to measure the piece so that we can get the proper dimensions. The second reason is that it allows is to create a starting point for our ellipse. This is standard with drawing any circles. I learned this trick years ago. So start to draw your ellipse by dragging from the intersection points of the guidelines see step one and where the arrow is pointing to. Next drag to the right and down to create your ellipse (2).</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Finish Off the Ellipse</h3>
<div class="StepImage wp-caption aligncenter">
	<img src="http://www.engrave.ca/mtm/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wpid4757-media_1322144156624.png" width="426" height="366" alt="wpid4757-media_1322144156624.png" />
</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>I have now finished off the ellipse so that it is recreating the legs of the box. Because I have used the original image as my template I need to place the oval in place along with the rectangle. I have the rectangle on page 2 and the original image is on page 1. So all I need to do is to cut the image (ctrl X) and than go to page 2 and paste the image (ctrl V). This will place the oval in the exact position that it was when it was on page 1.</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Open the Trim Command</h3>

</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Open up the Trim command in the shaping docker. Make sure that nothing is selected in the docker in terms of Source or Target objects. Next select the oval (1) and than click on the Trim button in the shaping docker (2).</p>

</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>When you move your cursor out you will see it turn into the two boxes (1). Click on the rectangle. </p>

<h3 class="StepTitle">Create a Box To Trim Off the Oval</h3>

</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>If you look at our original image the top of the ellipse is squared off. <p>One of the more popular downloads off the Epilog Website is the music box. A number of customers have asked how to recreate the technique of interlocking tabs. This is easy in CorelDraw and we can use the existing music box design to show you how to recreate the design.</p>

</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>You can see that the music box consists of 6 pieces. Note: If you want the file go to Epilogs website and download the file it is located in the sample section of the website</p>

</div>
<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>In this example I am going to create a page that is 4 inches by 12 inches</p>
</div></div>
<div class="LessonStep top">
<h3 class="StepTitle">Move the Box to the Top Left Corner</h3>

<p>To make things easy I like to work from the 0 , 0 origin. If I move the music box sample to the top left corner you will notice that I am .25 inches away on both corners. </p>

<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>If I bring over my guide lines you will see that each one of my steps is .25 inches in size and the gap is .25 inches.</p>

<p>Sometimes when you have to set up for a coaches plaque or a annual plaque where you are engraving all the names it is easier to use a table layout. A table keeps all the text in line, spaced and you can justify the cells if you want.</p>

<div class="StepInstructions">
<p>Here is a sample setup. You can see that the text is evenly spaced out and flows in the 3 columns.</p>
