This is a file that was given to me by one of my customers who needed some help in the CorelDraw print merge. The original file I got had all the lines in one column so I suggested that the customer fix it up so that there were 20 columns of names. This excel file had over 5000 names. Because there was 20 names per plate Corel created 287 plates with 20 lines per plate. I would not want to enter this text in manually. Check out the CorelDraw print merge video

One of the more common items that we need to engrave is a dial. If you do any work for industrial customers than you will need to be able to master this technique. Doing a dial in CorelDraw is easy it just requires a little more thought when you are doing it. In this lesson we will show you how to create a dial that is composed of two different length strokes. Each stroke will be at a different degree on a circle.

One of my dealers asked for some help on this order that they where trying to get. It is creating a ruler. I have been asked about this a couple of times so let us make the file up and show you how to do it.

One of the problems that people have when they are resizing vector graphics in CorelDraw is that some of of the outlines when made bigger lose there squareness at the edge. This is not a bug in the software but is a preset in the software. You can change this in the miter setting in the outline setup up or make it a default in the styles setup in options area.

One of the problems that we have with computers is that a lot of the files that we work with are large in size. in earlier times when download speeds where more of an issue it was advantageous to compress a file into a zip fie to make it smaller. Now a days this is not as much of a factor as download speeds are a lot faster. A lot of files that are sent now are compressed already so they can not be made any smaller. Files such as CorelDraw files (see the end of this article for an example), PDF, JPEG and most TIF can not be made any smaller. When customers give us text files it is not always in the best format. But the good thing is anytime we get the text we do not have to spell check which cuts down on errors. So I will always gladly take text. In this case I had a customer that got a work file from their customer. They did not know how to get it into CorelDraw so I did this lesson to show them how. There might be a better way and it was not as fast as if the text was formatted properly to be used in the print merge wizard but doing it this way meant that I did not have to spell check.
